McBride rides waves to ti­tle at Pa­pamoa

Port Waikato long board surfer Daryn McBride has claimed the Co­pi­ous Log­ger Di­vi­sion ti­tle at the 2017 Bar­rett Homes New Zealand Long­board and SUP Open held at Pa­pamoa Beach over the week­end.

McBride used his pre­ci­sion tra­di­tional surf­ing skills to trounce his op­po­nents.

He posted a 15.2 point heat to­tal for the fi­nal and in do­ing so also claimed the Katin best nose ride of the event award.

The nose ride prize, McBride said was what he wanted most from the week­end.

The surf was frac­tion­ally big­ger for the fi­nal day of the event with a small 0.5 me­tre swell.

In the SPY Op­tics men’s long­board fi­nal, McBride fin­ished the fi­nal in fourth place af­ter be­com­ing wave starved early on and not be­ing able to catch up.

Red Beach surfer Thomas Kib­ble­white re­turned to the win­ners podium for a sec­ond straight na­tional event, win­ning the men’s long­board fi­nal.
