Teen to sing for global country music stars
Pukekohe’s very own country music star will be performing in front of two hugely popular international singers during the Stampede Music Festival on March 4.
Singer/songwriter, Jasmine Tilyard, 15, who found her calling behind the microphone at the age of seven, has been offered the opportunity to perform at the country music festival to be held at Pukekohe Park Raceway. There, she will sing at the Wild Horse Saloon VIP area where she will play for both the VIP audience and country music stars, LeAnn Rimes and Scotty McCreery, who are headlining the event. ‘‘I’m pretty excited about it. ‘‘Being on the big stage is cool, but to be entertaining the entertainers, that’s a pretty big thing to say [you’ve done in your life],’’ said Jasmine.
The young rising star, who won the 2013 Junior Entertainer of the Year award when she was 12, has been such a big fan of Rimes since she started singing country, that many of her awards have stemmed from covering the artist’s songs.
‘‘Ever since I was seven, I’ve been singing her [Rimes’] songs,’’ Jasmine said.
‘‘I’ve sung a lot of her songs so it would be really cool to meet her.’’
Jasmine, who will be sharing the stage with fellow Pukekohe artist Mitch French, said the duo had been practicing a lot and that they were very confident their performance would be a hit.
‘‘We’ve been jamming down at Ed Street [bar and restaurant] and it’s just sounding amazing, so we are really excited because it’s actually coming together.
‘‘Lucky our voices blend because it’s sounding really really good.’’
Stampede Music Festival will be one of the biggest country music festivals Jasmine has performed at. The young artist, who won her first competition when she was seven, has also appeared on stage at the Paihia
