125 reasons to celebrate
Buckland School is gearing up for its 125th anniversary this month, and it’s set to be one of the school’s biggest celebrations yet. The school was originally opened in 1892, and was used for social functions and church services, and became the heart of the community.
Those were the days when many students rode their horses to school, and children learnt to write on slates.Organiser of the event, Jen Perry, said it would be a great celebration.
‘‘I’m looking forward to seeing the historical display, I think that will be really interesting, and being able to see the kids react to the old fashioned school stuff.
‘‘We’re hoping it’s going to be a chance for past students to get together and meet up again and have a catch up.’’
The anniversary will be held on March 17, and all past and present students are invited to attend, and take part in activities that reflect the last 125 years, view the school and check out the historical display. At 3pm there will be a shared afternoon tea, short speeches and the cutting of the anniversary cake, before families can cool off in the school pool. Perry said the school would love to spread the word as much as possible about the celebration. ’’If people can spread the word that would be awesome.’’ The school encourages anyone who is interested to complete the form on the school’s website to indicate what time the will be attending
