Dairy industry finalist named
The finalists for the 2017 Auckland Hauraki Dairy Industry Awards have been named.
The winners are set to be announced at the regional awards dinner at Pukekohe on March 9.
Awards regional manager Rosemarie Costar said it had been an exciting time when judges visited the farms of entrants in the Auckland Hauraki Share Farmer of the Year, Farm Manager of the Year and Dairy Trainee of the Year competitions.
‘‘As regional manager it is so exciting to have entrants showcase their business to the judges and demonstrate their practical skills. The judges have been very impressed with the quality of entrants and the pride, passion and dedication they are showing towards their properties and dairy industry as a whole.’’
Judges spent two hours on the Share Farmer entrants’ farms and one and a half hours with dairy manager entrants.
‘‘The judges are looking for entrants who are maximising the resource available to them on their properties, as well as how they are growing themselves and their businesses towards their next farming, personal or business goal.’’
The Dairy Trainee judging involves entrants undertaking a 30 minute interview and 30 minute practical skills module with a panel of judges. The three Auckland Hauraki title winners will all progress to the national finals at the Sky City Convention Centre, Auckland, on May 6.
