Meeting for rec centre in Tuakau

Franklin County News - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - JOHN BOYNTON

Volunteer group Tuakau Summit has organised a meeting on Wednesday from 7pm at the Tuakau War Memorial Hall, to ask Tuakau residents if they think the community needs a new gym and recreational facility.

Awaroa ki Tuakau Ward councillor Jacqui Church said people in the community she had spoken with were positive about the idea of a new facility.

‘‘They do feel there’s a need for and it’s trying to get them in a room together.

She said the meeting would form the beginning of discussions around what the facility would look like, how it would operate and its feasibility.

‘‘Everyone has their own ideas, it’s getting those ideas out.’’

Church said her main goal was to form a steering committee and get the project off the ground.

‘‘I think, we as a collective need to go forward.’’

The lack of sporting facilities in Tuakau also highlighted problem’s around Tuakau’s lack of green-space, Church said.

Parks, reserves, cycleways and pathways could all be enhanced, she said.
