Mercer’s rowing success
Mercer Rowing Club propelled to success during the recent North Island Secondary School Champs at Karapiro.
There was a total of 1777 athletes from 95 schools competing.
The Mercer Rowing Club crews are currently made up of students from Pukekohe High School, Onewhero Area School and Te Kauwhata College.
The crews competed in a series of heats and semi finals to make into the finals, which were made up of A, B and C finals. If a crew made it into an A final, the crew was essentially ranked in the top 8 in the North Island, into a B final the top 16 and into a C final the top 24. Results: C finals – 5 Mercer crews B finals – 4 Mercer crews A finals – 7 Mercer crews The A final results: Under 18 Boys Single Sculls – Regan Bernasconi 4th, Murphy Waters 8th; Under 18 Boys Double Sculls – Daniel and Flynn Barron 6th. Under 17 Girls Double Sculls – Ellie Cato and Tangi Isilleli Fo’ou 6th; Under 16 Girls Single Sculls – Phoebe Tumata 4th; Under 18 Girls Novice Eight – Onewhero Area School 5th; Under 18 Girls Novice Four – Onewhero Area School 5th.
