Mercer’s row­ing suc­cess

Mercer Row­ing Club pro­pelled to suc­cess dur­ing the re­cent North Is­land Sec­ondary School Champs at Kara­piro.

There was a to­tal of 1777 ath­letes from 95 schools com­pet­ing.

The Mercer Row­ing Club crews are cur­rently made up of stu­dents from Pukekohe High School, Onewhero Area School and Te Kauwhata Col­lege.

The crews com­peted in a se­ries of heats and semi fi­nals to make into the fi­nals, which were made up of A, B and C fi­nals. If a crew made it into an A fi­nal, the crew was es­sen­tially ranked in the top 8 in the North Is­land, into a B fi­nal the top 16 and into a C fi­nal the top 24. Re­sults: C fi­nals – 5 Mercer crews B fi­nals – 4 Mercer crews A fi­nals – 7 Mercer crews The A fi­nal re­sults: Un­der 18 Boys Sin­gle Sculls – Re­gan Ber­nasconi 4th, Mur­phy Wa­ters 8th; Un­der 18 Boys Dou­ble Sculls – Daniel and Flynn Bar­ron 6th. Un­der 17 Girls Dou­ble Sculls – El­lie Cato and Tangi Isil­leli Fo’ou 6th; Un­der 16 Girls Sin­gle Sculls – Phoebe Tu­mata 4th; Un­der 18 Girls Novice Eight – Onewhero Area School 5th; Un­der 18 Girls Novice Four – Onewhero Area School 5th.

Club com­mit­tee mem­ber Paul Cato said: ‘‘We are su­per proud.’’
