FROM THE NEWS DESK
It was a terrible welcome to our town last weekend for two young German tourists who had their rental van ransacked while parked along King St.
As I report on page 5, Christian Engel and his friend Dominik Wiedmann had only been in New Zealand for a day when their Jucy Chaser was broken into after they grabbed some lunch from Subway and went to photograph a soccer match.
Around $16,000 worth of photography gear, all their clothes, passports and other items were taken.
Christian said it had been his dream to come to New Zealand for a photography trip for more than 10 years, so it’s pretty heartbreaking that he will now think of Franklin in such a negative light.
Thankfully, the pair have received loads of offers of help - even the use of a camera from a very generous Franklin couple.
If anyone else wants to help the duo out, it would be so appreciated! Those with offers of help, can email Christian on email@example.com
