New leads in his­toric cold case

Po­lice are in­ter­ested in a small group of peo­ple in re­la­tion to the his­toric mur­der of bar­man Chris Bush.

Last month po­lice re­opened the case into Bush’s death. He was fa­tally shot 30 years ago at the Red Fox Tav­ern in Mara­marua in Oc­to­ber 1987.

Po­lice are fol­low­ing new leads, said De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Gary Len­drum, of Coun­ties Manukau CIB.

Bush was shot dead at the tav­ern just be­fore mid­night on Satur­day 24 Oc­to­ber, af­ter two men burst in while he was en­joy­ing a drink with three other staff mem­bers.

Po­lice have been able to nar­row their fo­cus on to a small group of ‘‘per­sons of in­ter­est’’ based on new in­for­ma­tion, Len­drum said.

‘‘We are con­fi­dent that we will even­tu­ally solve this case and that those re­spon­si­ble for the cruel mur­der of Chris Bush will be held re­spon­si­ble.’’

Po­lice thanked peo­ple who came for­ward with in­for­ma­tion fol­low­ing the re­cent air­ing of the mur­der case on Po­lice Ten 7.
