Hockey club finals this Saturday

Franklin County News - - SPORT -

A hailstorm interrupted the men’s premier hockey semi-final on Saturday with umpires adjourning proceedings for a few minutes.

Waiau Pa and OnewheroPukekohe exited stage left, both losing their semis, and by the same score line, to Kohekohe and PISC respectively.

PISC took a clerical approach to their win over OnewheroPukekohe. They hit the front after six minutes and were up 2-0 at the turnaround. They added one more goal in the second stanza.

Onewhero- Pukekohe battled hard but their lack of match play over the last few weeks started to show.

PISC 3 (Josh Bremner, Himesh Ranchod, Umesh Hari) beat Onewhero-Pukekohe 0.

Kohekohe used the same template to beat Waiau Pa. Chad Whitehead put them ahead after five minutes and they doubled their lead on the stroke of halftime.

A sublime last quarter individ- ual goal from Whitehead completed the scoring.

Kohekohe found Waiau Pa’s unpredictability difficult to breakdown at times and Carter Moore’s top drawer performance in the Waiau Pa goal didn’t make it any easier for them.

There are nine matches on the card for Saturday’s club finals day at Rosa Birch Park. The feature games are: Women’s Final, 11.30am Alfriston v One-Puke; Men’s Final, 1pm - PISC v Kohekohe.
