Exploring Sweden in summer

Franklin County News - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

Waiuku’s Christian Whyte will soon be flying across the globe for an experience of a life time.

The year 12 student from ACG Strathallan won a scholarship to study abroad over summer, through a high school student exchange provider, Your Education.

Christian will spend six months in Sweden and is looking forward to expanding his horizons.

‘‘Sweden really stuck out to me as it has some of the most environmentally friendly policies in the world, arguably leading the world into a greener future.

‘‘I want to expand my horizons, taking one of the most forward-thinking countries as my exemplar. Hopefully I can endure the extremely low temperatures long enough to possibly see Aurora Borealis.’’

Fellow student Kiran Morar, from Weymouth, also won the scholarship, and will head to Italy.

ACG Strathallan deputy principal Robyn Pryor said in today’s increasingly globalised society, it’s important for young people to understand and experience other cultures.

‘‘This experience will provide an opportunity for the boys to challenge themselves and to gain insight and understanding on other ways of living.’’

Christian Whyte will swap New Zealand’s summer for Sweden’s winter, thanks to a scholarship he won.
