The Franklin Silver Lining Trust treated 11 children to an awesome day out in Franklin last week. The 11-13-year-olds were taught self defense, how to be safe on social media, learnt about nutrition, an op shop challenge and they had displays from local emergency services as well. One of the highlights was seeing the police dogs in action. Here, Mason shows off his police dog skills on Mike Evans. The children were chosen based on their leadership qualities, chairperson Jude Balle said. ‘‘It’s just offering kids at this age to give them some confidence, and a fun day out that they might not experience elsewhere.’’ Pukekohe Police Sergeant Wayne Paxton, who is also involved with the trust, hoped to encourage more people to take them up on the group’s offer to provide experiences for children. ‘‘We want people banging on our doors.’’
