Swimmer breaks school record
Franklin’s Dylan Petherick swam his way to the top when he beat the Dilworth School’s record and continued his nine-year streak of being school swimming champion.
At this year’s competition the year 13 student broke two records, as he finished the senior 25m backstroke in 14.44 seconds and the senior 25m butterfly in 13.53 seconds.
The head of senior campus Neil Ritchie said Dylan’s achievements in the pool were something the school had not seen before.
‘‘What is amazing is that Dylan has been swimming consistently well every year since he started at Dilworth in year 5,’’ Ritchie said.
‘‘He’s been here nine years and been champion for his age group every one of those years.’’
Dylan said he is pleased with the tally he’s racked up at Dilworth.
‘‘I’ve really enjoyed swimming at the school and it’s great to be able to finish off my last year with two record times,’’ he said.
Dylan started swimming when he was 10 at the Pukekohe Swimming Club.
After just one year of swimming, he competed in the New Zealand Juniors and was placed sixth in the 50m butterfly.
He has also competed in Division 2 for the Pukekohe Swimming Club.
