Taranaki Gar­dens on Show

Taranaki, with its high sun­shine hours, am­ple rain, coastal breeze and fer­tile vol­canic soils, boasts some of the best gar­dens in the coun­try. The re­gion at­tracts thou­sands of gar­den lovers ev­ery spring with its two con­cur­rent fes­ti­vals, held this year from Oc­to­ber 28 to Novem­ber 6.

The gar­dens, which range from cosy ur­ban spa­ces to ram­bling coun­try es­tates, are spread right around Mount Taranaki.

The Taranaki Fringe Gar­den Fes­ti­val, now in its 12th year is pro­moted as ‘Real Gar­dens for Real Peo­ple’ where vis­i­tors can get ideas for their own gar­dens, ask ques­tions and get ad­vice from the gar­den own­ers. The Pow­erco Taranaki Gar­den Spec­tac­u­lar fea­tures 45 gar­dens, 40 of which are pri­vate gar­dens open ex­clu­sively for the du­ra­tion of the fes­ti­val. The fes­ti­val also in­cludes a mix­ture of free and paid events, in­clud­ing guided tours, celebrity chef demon­stra­tions, work­shops and gar­den speak­ers. Find out more at www.gar­den­
