Taranaki Gardens on Show
Taranaki, with its high sunshine hours, ample rain, coastal breeze and fertile volcanic soils, boasts some of the best gardens in the country. The region attracts thousands of garden lovers every spring with its two concurrent festivals, held this year from October 28 to November 6.
The gardens, which range from cosy urban spaces to rambling country estates, are spread right around Mount Taranaki.
The Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival, now in its 12th year is promoted as ‘Real Gardens for Real People’ where visitors can get ideas for their own gardens, ask questions and get advice from the garden owners. Among the 66 gardens and places of interest there are 13 new gardens to visit. Find out more at www.taranakigardens.co.nz
The Powerco Taranaki Garden Spectacular features 45 gardens, 40 of which are private gardens open exclusively for the duration of the festival. The festival also includes a mixture of free and paid events, including guided tours, celebrity chef demonstrations, workshops and garden speakers. Find out more at www.gardenfestnz.co.nz
