PACIFICA Best Regional Restaurant

Good Food Guide - - Winners - SPONSORED BY STUFF. CO. NZ

Housed in a blue bungalow on Napier’s waterfront, Pacifica is a true original. The setting is humble and unpretentious, the simple fit-out accentuated with Māori and Pacific decor. It’s a casual, comfortable environment, so low-key that the brilliance of the food can take you by surprise. Chef-owner Jeremy Rameka offers two five-course degustation menus each evening, one devoted to kaimoana, the other a broader offering. The food is highly creative, showing great technical skill and an utmost respect for ingredients. A dish of perfectly tender truffled lamb sweetbreads with chicken liver pâté, sous-vide egg yolks, edamame beans and roasted onions is a triumph, while the explosion of flavours of brussels sprout tortellini with mushroom ragout and black truffle oil show Rameka’s skill isn’t limited to meat and seafood. Service, led by Rameka’s partner Natalie Bulman, is assured, and the drinks list has plenty to intrigue. 209 Marine Parade, Napier, ph: 06-833 6335, pacificarestau Dinner Tues-sat; degustation menus $50
