Want to feel fabulous? Head along to the Parnell enclave of Cibo and put yourself in the able hands of affable owner-maitre d’ Jeremy Turner. He will escort you to a plush banquette to nestle into, settle your hand/man-bag on its own little square of carpet, then suggest something special to drink from his lovingly tended wine list. It’s a great place for groups – sophisticated without being stuffy, with quirky touches such as hand mirrors adorning the walls and an excellent courtyard that’s perfect for long lunching in. Chef Kate Fay’s dishes display a lovely sense of creativity, as in a beautifully composed mushroom dish, heralding autumn with complementary flavours and textures of buckwheat, eggplant, cornbread and shiitake gel. Her “Toblerone” dessert is also a high point – a playful and delicious study of contrasting textures and flavours . 91 St Georges Bay Rd, Parnell, ph: 09-303 9660, Lunch Mon-fri, dinner Mon-sat; mains $31-$59 IN BRIEF Sophisticated and quirky Parnell hideaway
