Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

This proudly Italian spot on Ponsonby Rd is light, bright and cheery, with a laid-back charm that draws in passers-by and keeps regulars coming back for more. While the green, white and red accents here and there nod to its Italian provenance, the overall feel is more New York than Roma. As for the food, it’s Italian all the way, with appealing antipasti, a range of housemade pasta and a handful of thoughtfully prepared meat and fish dishes. The authentic wood-fired pizza napoletana is top notch – don’t miss the Sophia Loreninspired Sofia, a “deconstructed eggplant parmigiana” in pizza form. Desserts are also great, with the baba al’arancia, a Neapolitan-style blood orange liqueur-soaked brioche with berry compote, Chantilly cream and vanilla anglaise, a recent highlight. The Italian-heavy wine list has something for everyone, and the aperitivi are excellent. 244 Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby, ph: 09-390 6213, farina.co.nz Lunch & dinner 7 days; mains $19.50-$38.50 IN BRIEF Fun, flavourful Italian
