Good Food Guide - - Waiheke Island -

From the rows of vines set in a picturesque green valley, to the large family groups dining at long wooden tables on the terrazza and inside the ivy-clad dining room, Poderi Crisci is as close to an authentically Italian experience you can get on this side of the world. The food lets the ingredients speak for themselves in the traditional Italian manner – think simple antipasti and contorni, pasta and risotto (a risotto di melanzane, formaggi e erbe aromatiche was a recent highlight), and skilfully prepared meat and fish dishes. As expected at a vineyard restaurant, the wine list is slanted towards the excellent Poderi Crisci wines, with a sprinkling of interesting European options. If you can make it there on a Sunday, the long lunch is an institution, and it’s pretty hard to beat when the Waiheke sun is shining. 205 Awaawaroa Rd, Awaawaroa Bay, ph: 09-372 2148, podericrisci.co.nz Lunch Thurs-sun, dinner Fri-sat (winter hours); mains $24-$34 IN BRIEF A complete, authentic Italian experience
