FREEMANS DINING ROOM

Good Food Guide - - Wellington -

The motto here is “good honest food”, and that’s exactly what chef-owner Nick Freeman (above) offers. Housed in a former shop on Lyttelton’s main drag, Freemans Dining Room is an unpretentious, friendly local that’s serious about the quality of its food and wine. Everything is made on site using high-quality ingredients – house-cured Akaroa salmon is joined by red pepper puree and creme fraiche in a simple, subtly delicious starter, while tortellini of confit chicken in a blue cheese sauce, dotted with hazelnuts and crispy pancetta, nails the winter comfort food brief. Decent thinbased pizzas, Three Boys beer on tap, a small but interesting wine list, with most available by the glass, and friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable service complete the package. 47 London St, Lyttelton, ph: 03-328 7517, freemansdiningroom.co.nz Breakfast Sat, lunch Sun, dinner Wed-sun; mains $25-$39 IN BRIEF A local favourite with integrity
