Good Food Guide - - Central Otago -

This quirky restaurant in the heart of Queenstown’s centre is the place to go for seriously good seafood dishes. Chefowner Darren Lovell (above) sources supremely fresh kaimoana from around the lower South Island and is a master at preparing it. Recent highlights included a beautiful oven-roasted whole flounder with capers, lemon and browned butter, and a meltingly tender Spanish-style octopus starter with potato and chorizo hash, pickled green tomatoes and aioli. It’s heartening to see that as much care goes into the vegetable side dishes, such as a wonderful salad of lightly pickled beets, baby silverbeet, cress and feta, and moreish fried brussels sprouts with toasted pine nuts and sherry vinegar. The wine list has been thoughtfully chosen and service is assured. 7 Beach St, Queenstown, ph: 03-442 6768, fishbonequeen Dinner 7 days; mains $25.90-$46
