Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

The French Café sets the bar for fine dining in New Zealand. Every aspect of the experience – from the impeccable service to the aesthetically pleasing dining spaces and the accomplished food – is consistently excellent. Whether you’ve been saving for months or you’re lucky enough to be a regular, every guest is afforded the same special treatment, expertly pitched to make you feel at ease. The beautiful plates that proceed from the temple-like calm of chef-owner Simon Wright’s kitchen are perfectly composed and wholly delicious. Egg yolk confit with mushrooms, chestnut, gnocchi and truffle juice brilliantly encapsulates autumn on a plate; pork belly with langoustine, carrots, pain d’epices and almond perfectly layers flavour and texture. Then there are all the excellent snacks you’re also served, by turns making you feel intrigued, refreshed and delighted. And the wine list – glorious in its scope.
