Like its heirloom bonehandled silver cutlery, Field & Green combines quality and taste with homely comfort. From its warm, simple, light dining room to its short menu and brief, well-formed drinks list, everything in this unpretentious eatery is wellconceived and belongs. Chef-owner Laura Greenfield serves original Europeaninspired comfort food, intelligently balancing flavours and textures. Seared kingfish, fregola, green bean, grapefruit and pea shoot with ginger orange dressing is a triumph of composition and skill. Desserts too are superb, with the housemade ice creams and sorbets are a signature. The same principled philosophy driving the food underpins the interesting selection of wines, available by the glass, and beers. Service is in sync with the restaurant’s no-frills style.
