You’ve probably heard about the trend for adult colouring books to help with stress relief, and now you can extend the benefits by spending 10 minutes doing Colourtation. Devised by Australian neuroscientist Dr Stan Rodski, this programme turns the act of colouring into a meditative process. Instead of giving you pictures to colour, it uses specific shapes and patterns that focus the mind.

“With shapes, there’s nothing to compare against reality and this provides a noncompetitive environment for the brain to be creative,” says Dr Rodski. The result is a calm mind that’s also revved up for further tasks and activities; a study showed students using the books before a maths test scored higher than those who hadn’t coloured.
