We’re a na­tion of smoothie lovers but smooth­ies don’t al­ways keep hunger at bay for long enough and we can end up eat­ing more than we need later to com­pen­sate. Re­searchers looked at why this hap­pens and found the only rea­son smooth­ies aren’t as fill­ing as eat­ing whole fruit and veges is be­cause we tend to gulp them down.

After all, it’s the iden­ti­cal meal – one in solid form and one in smoothie form. Their ad­vice? Sip a smoothie slowly over time and it can be just as fill­ing as eat­ing the same amount of whole fruit and veg­eta­bles.
