A cracker of an idea
We’ve all come up with good ideas, but how many turn into a business? When 13-year-old Ayla Hutchinson invented the Kindling Cracker, she knew she was on to a winner. “My mum hurt herself badly using a tomahawk to cut kindling, so I decided to invent a safe solution as part of my Year 9 school project”, says Ayla. “I wanted a simple, effective wood -splitter that could be used at home.” Ayla’s parents were so impressed with the result, they encouraged her to manufacture the product, and she’s since won seven awards, including Young Inventor of the Year at the 2013 New Zealand Innovators Awards.
