Kasbah du Toubkal, Morocco

Good - - TRAVEL -

This beautiful retreat in the Atlas Mountains has won numerous awards for its unique approach to responsible tourism. Perched on an imposing outcrop 1800 metres above sea level, the former summer home of a local feudal chief has been restored from a crumbling ruin to what it is today. Staying here is a chance to learn about the Berber culture, as it is run through a unique partnership with the Berber community. En-suite rooms in the gardens offer most modern comforts. There’s also a trekking lodge in the heart of the Atlas Mountains. Built in traditional style, the lodge has solar-powered underfloor heating and spectacular views, and is a leisurely four- to five-hour hike from Kasbah.
