Giving for good

Good - - GOOD STUFF -

Every Boxing Day in New Zealand, TradeMe is flooded with new listings for unwanted gifts, and those listings continue year-round – birthdays, weddings, farewells. Research from the US shows more than 50 per cent of people receive at least one unwanted gift each year (and on average three), with an average value just over $30 for each gift. Christine Langdon, Tracey Bridges and Sue McCabe wondered ‘what if that money could be used for good instead?’ and created The Good Registry. People can create a ‘gift registry’ for any special event and ask people to give to a charity they care about instead of giving them gifts for themselves. Or, gift buyers can purchase gift vouchers for The Good Registry, and their recipients can choose the charities they love the most, to donate to.
