Wellington

Hamilton Press - - CONVERSATIONS -

Wellington ismoving to a distribution system where it must have a playground within a 15-minutewalk from housing areas. Annual budget to maintain playgrounds, $1m.

The development of a nature play trail on Mount Victoria is the first of its type to be built. The idea is to integrate play trails into the open spaces to broaden interest in the environment. Traditional playgrounds are still popular, particularly those part of a wider park or natural environment, like the one beside the beach at Seatoun.

The city ismoving from plastic offthe-shelf equipment to using the characteristics of each site to select a wider variety of equipment. There are plans to redevelop FrankKitts Park playground as part of a larger waterfront redevelopment.
