The Auck­land Coun­cil must have a play­ground within a 15 min­ute­walk from hous­ing ar­eas. There are 318,200 chil­dren un­der the age of 15 in Auck­land. There is one pub­lic play­ground, free to use, for ev­ery 378 chil­dren un­der 15. If other play­grounds at schools and child­hood cen­tres are in­cluded, the fig­ure is one play­ground per 128 chil­dren. Auck­land’s an­nual bud­get for play­ground main­te­nance is $3.29m.

Pop­u­lar play­grounds in­cluded Tui Glen Re­serve, Hen­der­son, which fea­tures three pyra­mid tow­ers with stun­ning height and spec­tac­u­lar views, bas­ket swing, ea­gles nest, dual fly­ing fox and tree hut. The Parrs Park, Glen Eden, has a high tower, giant birds nest swing, sand and­wa­ter play, be­spoke­wa­ter pumps and dams.
