The wait continues for Winston Peters and his NZ First outfit to make up their minds about who to side with to form a coalition government. The longer he takes the more time it allows for an unlikely political combination to gain favour. Yes, I’m talking about a National-Greens coalition. The Green Party has said no, National has said, let’s talk about it. The Greens will be worried about falling out of favour with its hard-core supporters if it forms a government with National, and possibly, suffering the same fate as the Maori Party. National will be looking for a way to block out Winston, and probably thinks it has more control over the Greens than it would a partnership with NZ First. Some are calling the National-Green prospect the ‘‘Teal Deal’’, combining the blue and green colours of the parties. Is it time voters started thinking outside of the box and form newlook coalitions or are we doomed to a repeat of 1996 and 2005, when Winston decided who should lead New Zealand? Looking forward to your feedback and the outcome.
