Free macular degeneration tests
For the sixth year Hastings Heretaunga Lions Club is offering free screening for macular degeneration.
Macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in people over 50.
The screening will take place at Specsavers, corner of King and Heretaunga streets, Hastings, next Thursday, October 11 between 10.30am and 4.30pm.
Each year the number of people screened has increased and last year there was a high percentage of people referred to the hospital for further assessment and treatment.
World Sight Day is held every year on the second Thursday in October and is promoted by the World Health Organisation.
This is a Hastings Heretaunga Lions Club project in support of that initiative.
In addition Hastings Heretaunga Lions Club is collecting any old eye glasses for recycling or donations for the Fred Hollows Foundation. These can be dropped off at Spec Savers at the Lions Booth on the day.
