Be afraid . . . the culmination of Waihi’s first scarecrow competition is just days away.

Scarecrow makers have a few days to get their scary creations finished before this Sunday’s Shoctober Scarecrow Competition.

Organiser Terry King says if people still want to put an entry in and haven’t registered yet, call him on 021 250 7918 and he will make sure late entries can be accommodated.

Sunday will be a family and community day which acts as an open day for Waihi Drama Society.

“Everyone is welcome to come up to Boyd Rd Theatre from 1pm to see all the fantastic creations and vote for their favourite for the ‘peoples choice’ award. Come and meet Spongebob Scary Pants, Peter, Peter Pumpkin Keeper, Maya Queen of the Corn and Plumb Scary.”

There will be a sausage sizzle and entertainers as well as the chance to meet the scarecrows and their creators.

Winners will be announced at 2pm.

Goma is just one of the impressive scarecrow creations locals may have seen around town in Waihi.
