Alanis Morissette sings in Whitianga
Alanis Morissette, the Canadian musician behind 90s classics Ironic and You Oughta Know, is coming to the Coromandel.
IThe artist was announced as part of the Summer Concert Tour, a three date regional music festival planned for January, which includes a show at Whitianga.
Morissette‘s last New Zealand performance was 20 years ago and turned somewhat chaotic as the popstar put on a free concert in Auckland. The Evening Post reported soaring temperatures became too much for some fans, who had packed into Aotea Square for the November show. Hoses were eventually brought in to douse the 15,000 strong crowd.
All going well, the sun would also feature as part of Morissette‘s forthcoming tour. She’ll also perform in Taupo and Queenstown.
Morissette would be touring alongside George Thorogood & The Destroyers and former Men at Work star Colin Hay.
The Summer Concert Tour was promising ‘‘all their unmistakable hits’’.
When Morissette was last in New Zealand, the then 24-year-old pop- star had just released her fourth studio album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie.
She had been riding on the successes of her 1995 album, Jagged Little Pill, from which many of her best known hits were released.
Fast forward two decades and Jagged Little Pill has been made into a musical. The star last released a full album in 2012, and was instead spending more time on podcasting. The 43-year-old was releasing a monthly podcast, Conversation with Alanis Morissette.
Morissette was also working on a Broadway musical adaptation of Jagged Little Pill, due ot be released in May.
Tickets for any of the three dates were priced from $99 each. Children would also be given free entrance with adults. Tickets for the concerts went on sale on Thursday, via a presale, Greenstone Entertainment CEO Amanda Calvert said.
