Hauraki Herald - - RURAL -

The Thames Valley Heartland rugby team has a training camp in Paeroa on Saturday.

The camp is part of the build up to the opening game of the Mitre 10 Championship which begins on August 26 with an away game against Ngati Porou East Coast at Whakarua Park, Ruatoria.

After a couple of warm-up games against Taranaki and Auckland rep teams, the squad will freshen up this week in preparation for the upcoming competition.

Following a very successful team launch at the Thames Rugby Club on Wednesday night, where the team players and management were introduced to sponsors and supporters, media and the public, coach Matthew Bartleet will take the opportunity to work on readying his charges for the weeks ahead.

The development team continues its preseason campaign with a trip to Owen Delaney Park in Taupo to play the King Country development team.

These teams will meet in competition on September 23, so it will be a good chance for both sides to measure up for that game. Kick off at Taupo is 2.30pm.

Age grade rep rugby also starts this weekend with the Under 18s playing the Waikato Secondary Schools at Centennial Park, Paeroa at 12.30pm.

The Thames Valley Under 16s play the Corinthians Under 16s at the Hinuera Rugby Club at 12.30pm and the Under 14s play Matamata College at Te Aroha College at 12.30pm.

The Roller Mills and the Under 45kg teams have both commenced trainings and they will be taking the field in the next week or two.
