Norton to star in jazz cabaret
Thames performer Denise Norton will stage a classic jazz cabaret in Thames on October 6.
Norton will perform with Mark Bradley on piano at the Club in Mackay St, complete with two-course banquet and complimentary cocktail.
She has risen to become a successful international stage performer, whose versatility spans from classics to jazz.
Auckland born, at an early age she became a student member of the Royal Academy of Dance.
Denise won her first talent show at the age of 11 and at 13 became a private pupil of Dame Sister Mary Leo.
Although she performed on television and took part in the Marriage of Figaro, La Traviata, her first role in the Bartered Bride variety was the key for Norton, leading to a cameo role with Tommy Lee Jones as a spear wielding warrior.
Norton joined the stage production of Evita in New Zealand and after completing the New Zealand, Australian and Hawaiian tours, arrived in London.
Further training at the Actors Centre was inspiring for Norton and she participated in AL Webbers Requiem and did a comedy Music Hall at Charring Cross theatre before setting her sights on Europe.
After touring as Mary Magdalene in JC Superstar, the call came to join the cast of Cats in Hamburg – the first of many Broadway productions to start a new wave of excitement in Germany.
Norton spent many years based there performing in musicals and concerts, including the Highlights of AL Webber.
Now back in New Zealand, she has created a new cabaret show, and was last seen at the VIC in Devonport with her One Woman Show – from Vienna to Broadway.
Tickets for the Thames show are now available from Carsons Bookshop, Pollen St, Thames.
