The is­sue of coastal ero­sion is cer­tainly a topic that is gath­er­ing mo­men­tum in our com­mu­ni­ties.

That’s not sur­pris­ing given our district boasts some 400km of coast­line.

As Teresa re­ports on P1, a re­port high­lights the risks low­ly­ing small towns in the Hau­raki and Thames-Coro­man­del dis­tricts are fac­ing from ris­ing sea lev­els.

Thames Coro­man­del District Coun­cil is cur­rently de­vel­op­ing coastal man­age­ment strat­egy, and is hold­ing work­shops through­out the district this month.

A num­ber have been held but there’s still time to get to a few more, and learn more about an is­sue that could af­fect thou­sands.

There’s tow to­day, 10am-1pm and 3pm-6pm at the Whi­tianga Town Hall; Oc­to­ber 17, 10am-1pm, at the Whanga­mata Town Hall; Oc­to­ber 18, 10am-1pm, and the Tairua Hall, and 3pm- 6pm at the Ha­hei Fire Sta­tion.
