Bringing home the silver
‘‘Both finals teams were unbeaten in pool play which made for a tightly contested game.’’
Thames Valley Hockey U15 Boys can be proud of their silver medals earned at the Hockey New Zealand U15 National Championships held in Invercargill.
Beating South Canterbury in the semi-finals, where the winning goal was scored in the last few minutes of the game, they faced Whanganui, who beat Auckland 2-0, in the finals.
Both teams were unbeaten in pool play which made for a tightly contested game with no field goals scored.
Whanganui were awarded two penalty corners in the second half which they managed to converted into goals with a final score of 2-0 to Wanganui.
Valley achieved top goal scorer status with Taran Ainsworth at the head the goal scorer table for the tournament.
An outstanding result for the team during a tournament which included traditional hockey mights of Canterbury, Wellington and Auckland.
