“Thank you everyone — you are all awesome.”

That’s the message from two of the organisers of Paint the Village Red — a fundraising venture to raise funds for the Havelock North Volunteer Fire Brigade to build training facilities behind its station.

Businessman John Macpherson and gala convenor Jane Dunkerley were thrilled with how people responded to all the fun in the village over the weekend, and especially the old fashioned gala on the Sunday.

“It was a stunning day and we were rapt.

“There was an amazing atmosphere and everyone enjoyed the day,” John said.

“We estimate that by the end of the day 4000 to 5000 people had passed through the gates.

“There was absolutely no drama. It was a real family event.

“People were happy, lots of laughter and banter between the stall holders, who did extremely well, and the crowd.

“The tombola was a huge success thanks to all the generous people and businesses who donated prizes.

“We made a sweet success form the candyfloss stall — $1000.

“A real crowd pleaser was the demonstrations from our volunteer fire fighters.

“A car was set on fire and then the fire alarm went up and I actually though “oh no they have a callout what are we going to do now”.But it was all part of the display,” John said.
