The second mate of the steamer Rimu on the New PlymouthOnehunga service, Alfred Stanley Hill, single, 30, was lost overboard on the vessel's last trip. A patent lifebelt showing a light was immediately thrown overboard and the vessel cruised round about the spot several times. The sea was too rough to permit a boat being launched. No trace of the officer could be found and the voyage had to be resumed.
