World records for Para swim­mers

Para swim­mers So­phie Pas­coe and Mary Fisher have closed out their pro­gramme at the na­tional short course swim­ming cham­pi­onships with a world record each. Pas­coe fin­ished with a re­mark­able six world records, topped off with her SM10 100m but­ter­fly win­ning time of 1m 03.13s on Fri­day. It eclipsed the old mark held by Aus­tralian Paige Leon­hardt by al­most four sec­onds. Fisher also shone in the 100m but­ter­fly, set­ting a new S11 world record of 1m 16.77s. Else­where, 13-year-old Dunedin swim­mer Erika Fair­weather con­tin­ued to un­der­line her prom­ise. Fair­weather set the na­tional girls’ 13-years 800m freestyle record with a time of 8m 58.05s, adding to other records in that age divi­sion in the 400m in­di­vid­ual med­ley, 400m freestyle (4m 22.52s) and 200m freestyle.
