World records for Para swimmers
Para swimmers Sophie Pascoe and Mary Fisher have closed out their programme at the national short course swimming championships with a world record each. Pascoe finished with a remarkable six world records, topped off with her SM10 100m butterfly winning time of 1m 03.13s on Friday. It eclipsed the old mark held by Australian Paige Leonhardt by almost four seconds. Fisher also shone in the 100m butterfly, setting a new S11 world record of 1m 16.77s. Elsewhere, 13-year-old Dunedin swimmer Erika Fairweather continued to underline her promise. Fairweather set the national girls’ 13-years 800m freestyle record with a time of 8m 58.05s, adding to other records in that age division in the 400m individual medley, 400m freestyle (4m 22.52s) and 200m freestyle.
