Summer vision in Dunedin

Herald on Sunday - - SUNDAY TRAVEL -

One of New Zealand’s most famous modernist artists, Gordon Walters (inset), will have a rare exhibition of his work shown in Dunedin this summer. New Vision will open at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery on November 11, with a collection of his abstract geometrical works from the 1950s through to his best-known works of the subsequent decades. There are more than 150 pieces in the exhibition, which took more than two years to pull together — and it will be the first time they’ve all been shown together. See it until April 8. You could even time your visit with the Chinese New Year celebrations — held in Dunedin’s beautiful Chinese Gardens on January 28 — or catch the Masters Games, from February 3-11.
