Djokovic edges closer to No 2 ranking
Novak Djokovic extended his winning streak to 16 matches after beating South African Kevin Anderson 7-6 (1) 6-3 at the Shanghai Masters, edging the Serb closer to the world No 2 ranking. Djokovic, who has won the last two grand slams — Wimbledon and the US Open — is world No 3 but could move up a spot if he books a place in the final. Djokovic held the advantage to seal the victory and set up a semifinal clash with Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who became the fifth singles player to qualify for November’s ATP Finals with a 6-4 6-4 win over Kyle Edmund.
Novak Djokovic has won 16 in a row.
