How to prepare your herbs before tincturing

Unless covered in dirt (unlikely) your freshly picked herbs should not be washed. Roots may be washed, but only if necessary. Your herbs should be completely dry before using. Chop fresh herbs as fine as you can to increase the surface area for the maceration, although delicate flowers can be left whole. Dried herbs can be powdered in a blender. Don’t leave herbs exposed to sunlight as this will diminish their health qualities.
