Isabella Pachter.

“I think it’s wonderful to be surrounded by things people have made with their time, skill and dedication.”

I live in a sunny house down a long driveway, with fruit trees and a garden full of surprises. I love it so much; it has all of my favourite things in it, including my partner Pawel Smuga and our cat Willow. I don’t ever want to leave.

I love rainy days, looking out through the French doors being so glad not to have to go anywhere, and I also love summer days on the deck. But I think I feel most at home when the house is filled with family and friends, the oven’s on and music’s playing.

Our house is filled with collections of beautiful things, most of which are gifts or come from second-hand shops. I used to go a bit overboard with op shopping, but I’m much more selective now. I still can’t turn down ‘night class’ ceramics, though! As a maker, I have a special place in my heart for anything handmade.

I’m also lucky enough to work from home in my little garden studio. There’s something so special about working from home – this space is so familiar to me. I know what it’s like at all times of the day and in any weather; I know where the birds hang out and can catch the ripe figs before they do; I can eat lunch in the garden. I still pinch myself that this space is all mine to use however I want.
