5 + A day hamper shared
Deborah Campbell, co-ordinator for Horowhenua District Neighbourhood Support, and Otaki MP Nathan Guy presented a hamper full of fruit and vegetables to Taitoko School as part of the 5+ A day programme.
Two members of the school’s Junior Neighbourhood Support class received the donation: Michelle Paiaaua, a Year 6 student and Juliet Vahai, a Year 7 student. Ms Campbell said Mr Guy is a great supporter of Taitoko School and the JNS programme. Principal Rachel King said she was pleased with the gesture.
A recent survey last term confirms the JNS programme is delivering and keeps kids healthier with a more balanced diet.
Mr Guy, who was given the hamper of fruit and vegetables promoting the 5 + A day programme, said, “I decided to donate my gift basket to Taitoko School who will hand it out to children in need.”
The 5 + A day programme is operated by a Charitable Trust and funded by the Ministry of Health.
It operates in 548 decile one and two primary and intermediate schools throughout the country with some decile three schools taking it up too.
