Offender in court over car break-ins

-

An 18-year-old man has appeared in court over a spate of car breakins at rural car parks in the Levin area.

The man was charged with offences relating to late August car break-ins where items were stolen from vehicles.

Senior Sergeant Sarn Paroli said over the past two months a number of people who have parked in rural car parks at the entrance to bushwalks have had their cars broken into and property stolen.

“The arrest, which follows from some very good work by the Levin Tactical Crime Unit is a pleasing result and also a timely reminder for people to ensure their vehicles are locked, valuables are not left in vehicles or are locked away out of sight,” he said.

The man has been remanded in custody and will appear again in October.

■ Police say anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour in car parks or around parked vehicles is urged to call 111 immediately.
