Plastic hard to avoid

-

Re article dated September 19.

I realise there is a problem regarding plastic waste and some of us are trying our best not to purchase bags or have unnecessary plastic bags in our shopping, however, as much as you try, plastic cannot be avoided. If manufacturers can find another way of wrapping their goods we will always have this problem. I can see that in the future, plastic waste will be scattered in the streets and waterways as people try to get rid of it. There are some things we can do:

1. Don’t buy pre-packed items. 2. Don’t put veges and fruit in those little plastic bags.

3. Purchase shopping bags. 4. Line your bins with newspaper, this will absorb moisture.

I have been doing this for the past six months and it works fine. It does makes a difference. Try. VAL FRANKLIN

Levin may even have experienced a form of elder abuse such as an intimidating neighbour, nasty unwarranted phone calls, computer scams involving money demands, family bullying, and inability to carry out property maintenance and property rates payments — all resulting in stress on the elderly person.

Grey Power members can make a positive contribution within their local communities by assisting elderly persons who have been identified as being at risk of bullying or intimidation — a valuable community service in elderly health and wellbeing within the community.
