Raising funds for historic building
Levin’s only public choir, Sing Out Levin, is holding a fundraising concert on November 18 from 2.30pm in St John on Kent Church for maintenance for this building which is regarded as a local gem.
The building has a Historic Place Category 2 listing and was constructed in 1936.
The fundraiser, named Rhythm of Life, will have 90 minutes of choral singing, interspersed with solos, duos and organ-music, led by accomplished musician Myrna Michell, and with guest organist Douglas Bolitho.
Myrna Michell is a singer, pianist, song-writer and teacher from Levin who has 50 years’ experience in accompanying and coaching singers. She is a member of Song Leaders Network Aotearoa, and of Composers Association of NZ.
Originally from the UK, Myrna arrived in New Zealand in 2014 and, finding no public choir in the area, launched Sing Out Levin, which now has 40 members.
Expect an enjoyable afternoon of music for a donation at the door which will go to the church’s building fund.
Originally a Methodist Church, the building was sold in 2008 to the Hope Centre, after the local Methodist church merged with the Presbyterians to become the Uniting Church of Levin.
‘The fundraiser, named Rhythm of Life, will have 90 minutes of choral singing, interspersed with solos, duos and organ-music.
