Strug­gle to meet needs

The Gov­ern­ment is put­ting $10,000 ex­tra into Marl­bor­ough bud­get­ing ser­vices to al­le­vi­ate pres­sure from in­creas­ing de­mand.

Kaik­oura elec­torate MP Colin King said Marl­bor­ough bud­get­ing ser­vices Te Tai O Marokura Char­i­ta­ble Trust and Te Whare Putea would both get $3000, and Marl­bor­ough Fam­ily Bud­get­ing Ser­vice would get $4000.

The grants are part of a na­tional one­off boost of $589,000 be­ing de­liv­ered to 155 bud­get­ing ser­vices or­gan­i­sa­tions.

Mr King said the fund­ing boost was pos­i­tive news.

Bud­get­ing ser­vices played a vi­tal role in the elec­torate, help­ing fam­i­lies take control of their fi­nances.

The Gov­ern­ment spent $8.9 mil­lion a year on bud­get­ing ser­vices to en­cour­age peo­ple to take re­spon­si­bil­ity for their fi­nances.
