Gardens to blossom with talent
The Lions Club of Seaward Kaikoura invites musicians and artists to take part in the inaugural Art and Music in the Garden event, to be held on February 17.
The idea is to showcase Kaikoura’s artistic talents as well as magnificent scenery – the setting is Julie and Melville Syme’s Fifeshire property overlooking the Kaikoura ranges – as well as to raise muchneeded funds for community projects in Kaikoura.
The day promises to be a real treat with a number of local artists, as well as two from Hanmer Springs and one from Cheviot, already indicating their interest. But with plenty of gardens to fill, there is space for many more yet, so if you are interested in exhibiting your work pick up a registration form from the Kaikoura Star office, or contact one of the organisers for more details. A fee of $5 is charged for exhibiting artists and a 10 per cent commission will be taken on all sales. Artists are also warmly invited to exhibit items with no obligation to sell if preferred.
Musicians are also asked to express an interest, either groups or solo performers, young or old. The garden will be open from 11am till 4pm so there will be room for anyone who would like to take part.
Those who are not keen on exhibiting or performing are warmly invited to come and have a look and listen, and wander around the picturesque surroundings of Fifeshire.
Entry will be $4 a person and for an additional $6 you can treat yourself to a home-made Devonshire tea.
Fifeshire is on the way to the seal colony and will be clearly signposted on the day. For anyone who has not been lucky enough to visit Fifeshire and admire the gardens and view, this event is a must.
If it is well supported, organisers hope to make it an annual fundraising event.
Artists and musicians need to call Kathy O’Loughlin on 319 3130, or Julie Syme on 319 5059.
