Brigade kept busy
Three female occupants escaped injury when their car hit a bank while travelling south down a slope to the Conway River bridge on Wednesday.
Medical staff said the three were very lucky to avoid major injury after the car hit the road bank and bounced across the road, avoiding any oncoming traffic and ending up on its side.
They were taken to Kaikoura Hospital by St John ambulance.
The fire brigade was also busy late at night in the weekend.
Chief fire officer Ian Walker said guests at a motel on the Esplanade called the emergency 111 number about midnight on Saturday after a smoke alarm went off in their motel unit.
Then again at midnight on Sunday the fire brigade was called out when an alarm was activated at Kaikoura High School, but it was a false alarm.
